Vice President Kamala Harris has recently drawn criticism for delivering a gaffe during a recent campaign event, in a misstatement that would rival that of President Joe Biden, who often makes similar mistakes during his speeches. “He, He even called for termination of the United States Supreme, the supreme land of our nation, the United States Constitution, the,” Harris said, jumbling her words as she seemingly tried to attack former President Donald Trump.

While Harris has largely avoided the press and unscripted interviews since stepping up to lead the Democratic ticket after Biden stepped down, she still receives substantial criticism over her comments.  The American Tribune recently reported on a word salad non-answer Harris gave when she was asked about how her economic agenda would be funded.

“Can you explain how you’re going to pay for those, and can you give us a sense of what other policies we want to unveil?” Harris was asked by a reporter. She delivered a long-winded answer that didn’t directly answer the question while throwing around buzzwords, such as “return on investment.”

The vice president replied to the reporter’s question, “I mean, you just look at it in terms of what we are talking about, for example, around children and the child tax credit and extending the EITC that it’s at $6,000 for the first year of a child’s life. The return on that investment, in terms of what that will do and what it will pay for, will be tremendous.”

Harris then spoke about issues like child poverty and housing that plague the country.  “We’ve seen it when we did it the first year of our administration reduced, we reduced child poverty by over 50% so that’s a lot of the work. And then what we’re doing in terms of the tax credits, we know that there’s a great return on investment. And when we increase home ownership in America, what that means in terms of increasing the tax base, not to mention property tax base, what that does to fund schools, again, return on investment,” she said.

Kamala also asserted that it was a “mistake” for people to not correctly assess what constitutes a “return on investment.”  “I think it’s a mistake for any person who talks about public policy to not critically evaluate how you measure the return on investment when you are strengthening neighborhood, strengthening communities, and in particular, the economy of those communities, and investing in a broad-based economy. Everybody benefits, and it pays for itself,” she said.

One of the biggest complaints about Kamala Harris’ campaign is that she has seemingly refused to engage with the press.  Former President Donald Trump has suggested this is because Harris “can’t talk to people.”Trump said in a recent interview, “They also said Kamela is going to do it … she can’t talk to people, she can’t answer questions. She hasn’t done one interview. She’s not doing any interviews, because she if she did one interview where hard questions asked, she’s incapable of answering.”
