Over the past few years, the apparent decline in liberal California cities, such as Los Angeles, has seemingly accelerated.  As a result, businesses are impacted by deteriorating conditions that are not conducive to a thriving consumer environment.  According to recent reports, a famous sandwich shop in Los Angeles, Langer’s, may be forced to close due to the prevalence of crime, open-air drug use, homelessness, and more.

Speaking to Fox 11, Norm Langer explained how the legendary sandwich shop his father opened roughly 80 years ago, may be forced to close due to the “third world” conditions that are seen on the streets of Los Angeles outside the restaurant.  X influencer Kevin Dalton, wrote, “Langer’s in Los Angeles has been making the greatest pastrami sandwich on the planet for nearly 80 years and now may be closing due to the crime, drug use, homelessness, violence, and all the other 3rd world conditions that have overwhelmed this family business.”

“It’s not safe,” Langer said. “It’s too many needles. Too much fentanyl. Too much drugs.”  Reportedly, a homicide just recently occurred at the nearby park, which is plagued with homelessness.  Locals claim that conditions are so unsafe in the area, that you never see children playing in the park as it is designed to be used.

“People walking around here taking their clothes off, walking around naked. You know, it’s nuts. I don’t want to spoil anybody’s appetite, but you’ve got a problem with defecation on sidewalks, for somebody was strung out on drugs. There’s something. They’re trying to make a score on fentanyl. They’re passed out on the sidewalk, and the city is lame and doing something about it,” the owner of the restaurant continued.

Langer added that efforts to clean the area up must be consistent or else they are futile.  “A couple of years ago, there was a million and a half dollars put up to straighten out the park. They fenced it off, took one side at a time. They got in and they cleaned up the whole park. They redid it, it was beautiful. Not anymore,” he explained.

The American Tribune has reported on other restauranteurs in California who are disgruntled with the state’s leadership. Famous Food Network chef Andrew Gruel recently criticized Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon for his woke “soft on crime” policies, which many critics blame for the increase in criminal activity in the city. As a result, Gruel vowed never to open another restaurant in California.

“At this point, it’s criminal on behalf of the DA and officials who advocate for this soft-on-crime insanity. There is no nuance to this; it’s intentional. How many thousands of cases do we need to see to know it leads to more violence? Everyone, left, right, and center, can see this. The goal is to instill fear and destroy communities,” Gruel wrote on X.

The chef said in a previous tweet, “From the next tweet: The LA Times reports one of the suspects has a lengthy criminal history in LA County. He should have been locked up for prior felonies, but he did no prison time in yet another soft-on-crime prosecution under LA DA George Gascon.”  Watch Norm Langer discuss the current state of Los Angeles below:

He continued illustrating the impact these policies have had on California society.  “Allowing all of these crimes has really ripped apart the social fabric that we know of as the foundation of businesses. And then businesses have had to suffer because of all the crime in their surrounding communities. Business goes down. The regulations have piled up,” he said.
