Blackouts could be coming this summer from overloaded power grid

President Joe Biden has made pouring billions of taxpayer dollars into green energy in the name of stopping climate change the top political priority of his regime.

A large percentage of the taxpayer-funded spending contained within virtually every major bill he’s signed into law since taking office has been funneled to Democrats’ allies in the green energy industry.

To date, the Biden regime has spent over $1 trillion on Democrats’ environmental extremist Green New Deal policies.

Now, the consequences of turning to unreliable energy sources could be felt this summer.

North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) released a new report that found that major sections of the country are at risk of blackouts this summer.

Their 2024 summer reliability assessment found that Texas, as well as many other states across New England, the southwest, and the midwest, face an “elevated risk” of electricity supply shortfalls if demand rises above the historical average.

Solar and wind power failing to produce enough electricity could contribute to blackouts.

America’s Power CEO Michelle Bloodworth told The Daily Caller that the report showed that the country was increasingly reliant on wind and solar.

“NERC’s latest reliability assessment shows that our electricity grid is becoming increasingly reliant on weather-dependent sources of electricity, leaving one-third of the country at elevated risk of blackouts this summer,” Bloodworth said.

The Midcontinent Independent System Operator MISO, a grid operator for the Midwest, could be in big trouble if wind and solar don’t hold up in a high-demand situation.

“However, it can be challenging for MISO to meet above-normal peak demand if wind and solar resource output is lower than expected,” the NERC report stated. “Wind generator performance during periods of high demand is a key factor in determining whether there is sufficient electricity supply on the system or if external (non-firm) supply assistance is required to maintain reliability.”

Wind and solar are dependent on the whims of the weather.

Texas under threat of blackouts

Texas is the top state in the country for solar energy, and its electrical grid is increasingly reliant on green energy.

Currently, 30% of the state’s electricity is generated by wind and solar, which has led to big problems in the past.

The state’s electric grid barely missed blackouts during a heatwave last summer.

 “As a result of continued vigorous growth in both loads and solar and wind resources, there is a risk of emergency conditions in the summer evening hours when solar generation begins to ramp down,” the NERC report read. “Contributing to the elevated risk is a potential need, under certain grid conditions, to limit power transfers from South Texas into the San Antonio region.”

Another heatwave this summer in Texas could push its grid to the brink.

“These grid conditions can occur when demand is high and wind and solar output is low in specific areas, straining the transmission system and necessitating South Texas generation curtailments and potential firm load shedding to avoid cascading outages,” the NERC report added.

The country’s electric grid is being strained from reliable sources of electricity, like coal-powered plants being forced to close.

Democrats’ electric vehicle mandates will only increase the load on the energy grid moving forward.

America could be facing the same rolling blackouts faced by third-world countries because of Democrats’ obsession with green energy.
