A House Oversight Committee is probing recent revelations that the Biden regime pressured a controversial global transgender “healthcare” organization to drop age limit guidelines for  hormonal and surgical transitions.

In a letter to U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra, Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) accused the agency of political interference.

“We are concerned that HHS officials, acting in their official capacity, inappropriately applied pressure for changes to international pediatric medical standards,” wrote McClain, chair of the subcommittee on Health Care and Financial Services.

According to a June 2024 report in the New York Times,  HHS officials pressed the radical World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) to remove its age limit recommendations for sex change operations on minors because it “could fuel growing political opposition to such treatments.”

The Times reported that the pressure campaign was led by the office of the Biden regime’s transgender HHS Assistant Secretary for Health Adm. Rachel Levine.

“Officials applied this inappropriate pressure by urging for the removal of age limits that expands the pool of children and adolescents recommended for irreversible gender transition surgical procedures. The Committee requests documents and information from HHS to assist our investigation of this matter,” McClain wrote.

“The Biden Administration’s advocacy for expanding the pool of vulnerable children subjected to life-altering procedures they may later regret is reprehensible. Emails indicating that this advocacy was done for political advantage – possibly to satisfy extremist elements of its base – is even more outrageous,” the congresswoman added.

Back in March leaked WPATH files revealed that the organization is controlled by gender ideologues who routinely conduct experimental hormonal and surgical procedures on minors and vulnerable adults despite legitimate medical and ethical concerns.

Internal communications indicated that the doctors performing these procedures were aware that children and adolescents do not always comprehend and thus cannot consent to the hormonal and surgical transitions they championed. The files also revealed that they knew the experimental procedures often have devastating and permanent side effects, including cancer and sterility.

In their 2021 medical guidelines, WPATH initially recommended lowering the acceptable age for transgender hormone therapy to 14, the age for mastectomies to 15 and 17 years for genital or hysterectomy procedures.

WPATH emails reveal that direct meetings between Levine and WPATH’s leadership indicated Levine was “very eager” for the release of these standards of care and supportive of its integration within “health policies of the Biden government.” And additional emails described WPATH meetings in which Levine and HHS staff were “keen to bring the trans health agenda forward.”

Levine and then-Chief of Staff Sarah Boateng then advocated for something even more reprehensible, according to the emails, asking WPATH if the “specific ages can be taken out” of the guidelines because “having specific ages in the document will make matters worse.”

Despite WPATH informing Levine that it was not possible to remove the age recommendations, those limits were dropped from the final version of the recommendations, the Times reported.

WPATH published its draft Standards of Care, Version 8 (SOC-8) for public comment in December 2021.

WPATH’s transgender president Dr. Marci Bowers denied that the change was politically motivated, telling the Times that the organization “doesn’t look at politics when making a decision.”

Backlash over the Times report prompted the White House to claim it did not support sex-change surgery for minors, Fox News reported.

However, after backlash from left-wing groups, the White House later tweaked its response, telling 19th News that such surgeries “should be limited to adults,” but, “We continue to support gender-affirming care for minors, which represents a continuum of care, and respect the role of parents, families, and doctors in these decisions.”

The Oversight subcommittee demanded that HHS turn over all relevant documents and communications by Sept. 10, and warned the agency not to interfere in the panel’s probe.

“Under your purview, HHS has not cooperated in good faith with the Committee’s oversight of HHS and its sub-agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services,” McClain told Becerra. “It is unacceptable for HHS to interfere with congressional investigations by refusing and delaying cooperation with the Committee’s oversight.”
