NBC is set to run a special featuring animals claimed to be representative of a wide scale of LGBTQ behaviors during Gay Pride Month.
The network will stream Queer Planet on its Peacock service on June 6 claiming to show “queer relationships” in the animal kingdom, according to IndieWire.
The program is set to be narrated by gay actor and The Book of Mormom star Andrew Rannells who claimed that the “first-of-its-kind nature documentary” really “opened his eyes” to gay animal behavior.

“We’ve all heard of gay penguins, but this film really opened my eyes to the full spectrum of LGBTQ+ behaviors across the natural world,” Rannells said. “And what could be more natural than being who you are? I’m excited to be part of ‘Queer Planet,’ especially during Pride Month, and on Peacock, surely the most colorful and glamorous of all the streaming services.”
The show claims to reveal “gay communities” in the animal kingdom, including “pansexual” apes, “sex-changing” clownfish, and “multi-gendered” mushrooms.
The documentary is replete with interviews with scientists, writers, and researchers including, bird expert Dr. Martin Stervander, biologist Dr. Christine Wilkinson, primate researcher Dr. Amy Parish, biologist Antonia Forster, entomologist Dr. Tim Cockerill, evolutionary biologist Dr. Dan Edwards, and writer Bradley Trevor Greive.
Producers of Queer Planet claim that the documentary will be both enlightening and provocative and will cause viewers to question the “traditional concept of what’s natural when it comes to sex and gender,” IndieWire adds.
