Police in New York said five family members were found dead Sunday at a Long Island home in what authorities are calling a murder-suicide.
Nassau County police said officers first found a man dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound outside the house in Syosset at about noon Sunday.
Inside the home, police found the remains of four other people who were shot dead.
Law enforcement sources told WNBC that all the deceased were related to each other.
Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder told Newsday at the scene that the dead man on the front lawn “did shoot and kill himself.”
The news outlet also reported that the home belonged to Theresa Martha DeLucia, 95, who was buried Friday.
Local real estate agent Mary Macaluso told Newsday that she was heading to the home to meet with the relatives about whether to sell the property.
Nassau County police plan to provide an update on the investigation Monday morning.
