Speaking in an interview with CNN in the wake of RFK Jr.’s running mate saying that he might drop out and support Trump in exchange for a cabinet position, former President Donald Trump said that he would be happy to have Mr. Kennedy be part of his cabinet if he manages to beat Kamala Harris and win the 2024 election in November.

As background, Mr. Kennedy apparently first reached out to the “highest intermediaries” of Vice President Kamala Harris, the 2024 Democratic nominee, who said her team had “no interest in talking.” Mr. Kennedy, after rumors of that emerged, sounded off and said Harris is unrecognizable to the Democratic Party of his ancestors.

Then, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s running mate, Nicole Shanahan, said in an interview with podcast host Tom Bilyeu that the campaign has been speaking with the Trump campaign. “There’s two options that we’re looking at, and one is staying in, forming that new party, but we run the risk of a Kamala Harris — Kamala Harris and (Tim) Walz presidency. Because we draw votes from Trump, or we draw somehow more votes from Trump,” she said. “Or we walk away right now and join forces with — with Donald Trump.” She added, “The question is … is the risk of a Harris-Walz presidency worth us staying in? And that’s the question we have to ask ourselves right now.”

Trump, speaking in an interview with CNN, said that he likes RFK Jr., respects him, and would likely give him a cabinet position in exchange for support. He said, “He’s a brilliant guy. He’s a very smart guy. I’ve known him for a very long time. I didn’t know he was thinking about getting out, but if he is thinking about getting out, certainly I’d be open to it.”

Continuing, Trump added that he would “love” an endorsement from Mr. Kennnedy because he’s “always liked” RFK Jr. Continuing, Trump said that he “probably would” appoint Mr. Kennedy to a cabinet position in the next Trump administration if he manages to win the election in 2024, adding that he would be honored by Mr. Kennedy’s support.

Speaking on those issues and getting to the point about probably giving Mr. Kennedy a cabinet slot in exchange for support, Trump said, “I like him a lot. I respect him a lot. I probably would, if something like that would happen. He’s a very different kind of a guy — a very smart guy. And, yeah, I would be honored by that endorsement, certainly.”

Mr. Kennedy, sounding off about Kamala’s Democratic Party on X (formerly Twitter), said, “The Democratic Party positions itself as the party of liberty. Kamala Harris says that Americans should make personal decisions without the ‘government telling them what to do.’ Tim Walz’s Golden Rule is ‘Mind your own damn business.'”

Continuing, Mr. Kennedy ridiculed Walz given the anti-liberty drift of the Democratic Party, saying, “In view of the censorship, surveillance, vaccine mandates, and the confederacy of fixers openly working to prevent me from getting on ballots, this is like the arsonist telling us he’s a firefighter. I am running to make America once again the Land of LIberty.”
