Several Secret Service agents have been placed on leave after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump at a Butler, Pennsylvania rally on July 13, according to a new report from Real Clear Politics.

The outlet reported that three sources say several members of the USSS Pittsburgh Field Office have been placed on leave following the shooting. As these agents are placed on leave, others have taken their place to fill in as needed for the job.

Administrative leave occurs when a government employee leaves their position on a temporary basis for an investigation or other concern. Former USSS Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned following the shooting at the Butler rally, where Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to evade security, get on top of a roof, and take several shots at Trump and the crowd, killing one man, before being killed himself by USSS snipers. Acting USSS Director Ronald Rowe has taken on Cheatle's role in the agency. 

Weeks ago, Rowe was grilled in by members of the Senate in a hearing on the failures of the USSS at the time of the rally. When Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) inquired about if any agents had been relieved of duty, Rowe responded that he would “not rush to judgment” but that “people will be held accountable” for the security failures.  

Although Crooks missed the fatal shot against Trump, striking only the GOP nominee’s ear, audience members were hit, with Corey Comperatore being fatally wounded as he shielded his wife and daughters from the spray of bullets.

Rowe stated in his opening remarks, "I went to the roof of the AGR building where the assailant fired shots and laid in a prone position to evaluate his line of sight. What I saw made me ashamed. As a career law enforcement officer, and a 25-year veteran with the Secret Service, I cannot defend why that roof was not better secured."
