Cook County State’s Attorney Declares that DNC Rioters Will Not be Prosecuted

Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx announced on Sunday that none of the rioters who are attempting to disrupt the Democratic National Convention (DNC) will be charged.

As reported by Breitbart, Foxx made the announcement preemptively, ahead of the start of the DNC on August 19. Foxx declared that she considered the rioters to be “peaceful,” and further stated that her office will not prosecute even the unruly rioters who commit misdemeanors, including disorderly conduct, unlawful gathering, criminal trespass, and curfew charges.

“Whether it’s the O’Hare 40, or the educators at Northwestern, or the students at the Art Institute. We are consistent. We don’t prosecute these cases,” said Foxx. “So this is not a policy that has been stagnant since 2020. It’s certainly a policy that we will continue to take into the DNC.”

Foxx is one of several far-left attorneys who was backed by billionaire George Soros to run for prosecutors of major counties and other jurisdictions across the United States, with State’s Attorney being Cook County’s equivalent of a District Attorney. One of Soros’ super PACs donated $408,000 to her first campaign in 2016. As a result, Foxx and many other left-wing prosecutors refused to press charges against rioters who destroyed dozens of cities during the race riots of 2020.

Her announcement also marks a sudden about-face from statements she made back in April, where she defended a memo released on November 15 which stated that rioters would be arrested and prosecuted.

Foxx’s reversal also runs contrary to the stance taken by other top law enforcement officials in Chicago, where the DNC is taking place. The Chicago Police Department (CPD) temporarily rewrote its arrest policy back in June for the sole purpose of applying the new rules to potential mass arrests at the DNC.

“We know the realities of these types of situations, especially when the number of people we’re expecting to converge upon Chicago is inevitable that there is a possibility for vandalism,” said CPD Superintendent Larry Snelling in June. “There is a possibility for violence, and we are prepared to deal with that.”

As such, Foxx’s refusal to prosecute means that any arrests carried out by the CPD will ultimately be for nothing, and the rioters will be released when no charges are pressed.
