Audiences have become accustomed to watching Hollywood turn beloved franchises into vehicles for a far-left woke agenda in recent years. But legendary actor Michael Keaton recently confirmed that he refused to revive his titular character for the upcoming “Beetlejuice” sequel unless it retained the same politically incorrect vibe of the original.

As the Daily Wire reported:

The 72-year-old star said one of his stipulations for agreeing to participate in the sequel project 36 years later was not giving his titular character a lot of screen time, just like in the first film.

“The idea was, no, no, no, you can’t load it up with Beetlejuice, that’ll kill it,” Keaton told GQ during an interview published Monday. “I think the Beetlejuice character doesn’t drive the story as much as he did in the first one. He’s more part of the storyline in this one as opposed to the first one, which is a case of, this thing comes in and drives the movie a little bit.”

In the 1988 fantasy horror film, Beetlejuice was only on screen for 17 minutes total. Keaton elaborated that Beetlejuice is an “it” but not because of society’s obsession with pronouns.

“He’s a thing. He’s more of a thing than a he or a she, he’s more of an it. And I’m not saying ‘it’ to be politically correct. I just viewed it as a force more than anything. I mean, there’s definitely strong male energy, like stupid male energy, which I love,” the actor explained. “You don’t want to touch that because it’s not like you go, ‘Well, it’s a new year and this thing would now act like that.’”

Keaton’s reassurance likely came as some rare good news for those who believe the entertainment industry has oversaturated the market with content that places the supposed virtues of DEI over simply telling a good story.

Disney was perhaps the most notable offender, and even its executives had to acknowledge that the famed studio went too far in embracing a leftist ideology, as the Daily Mail reported late last year:

Disney has been embroiled in several political controversies in recent years that have illustrated to some parents and consumers that the brand’s values may no longer align with their own.

Notably, the company took a strong position against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ Parents’ ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill – actually called the Parents’ Bill of Rights – that bans sexual and gender curricula for public elementary school students. The company has since continued releasing agenda-driven content.

CEO Bob Iger assured investors in September that he will strive to ‘quiet the noise‘ around the company’s involvement in cultural issues because it has shown to be bad for business. But that quieting has evidently not yet occurred.

GOP Senator Ted Cruz, who is often vocal on culture war issues, reacted to the corporate disclosure on a recent episode of his podcast ‘Verdict’, calling the filing ‘stunning.’

He argued that Disney’s acknowledgement of the current disharmony between its products and its consumers is indicative of the huge amount of money the company has lost on its recent progressive endeavors.

‘The phrase go woke, go broke, Disney has sadly embodied that phrase, I am sure Walt Disney is spinning in his grave at horrors to what has happened to his namesake,’ he said.
