Anti-Israel protesters interrupted former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Tuesday night.
The California Democrat had joined Colbert for a live taping of the late-night talk show at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago one day after appearing at the Democratic National Convention, which is being held nearly 3 miles away at the United Center.
The show had just returned from a commercial break when the topic switched to ceasefire discussions between Israel and Hamas.
“War has no place in a civilized society,” the 84-year-old said as she was interrupted. “We have to learn more about trust and peace and learning about each other rather than have conflict resolved by war.”
Colbert mentioned the anti-Israel protesters who stood outside of the venue, saying Pelosi’s answer was “unsatisfying to some people.”
“Unless we have a two-state solution, we’ll not have a resolution to this,” the 84-year-old added.
One protester in the crowd asked Pelosi why the US government supplied arms to Israel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Free Palestine,” a woman could be heard shouting as Colbert tried to settle the crowd
“Please don’t interrupt my guests,” the talk show host said.
“Madam Speaker, we’re a live show so we have to go at this point. Please come again and we can continue the conversation,” Colbert added.
