“Happy Gilmore” is often viewed as one of the best sports comedy movies out there and among people’s top-10 Adam Sandler flicks, so it should come as no surprise to see the excitement bubbling over a sequel.

There was so much hubbub that droves of people lined up at the Hyatt Regency Morristown for an open casting call for extras on Tuesday for “Happy Gilmore 2.”

An Instagram account for Morristown showed video of lines of people waiting to audition for a part with the caption to the post indicating that “about 1,500” people were let upstairs.

Long lines of people could be seen waiting outside the hotel hoping for a chance to be an extra in the film, which will be shooting in New Jersey from September-November.

“Oh my gosh, this was the line today to get your name on the list of working extras for the movie Happy Gilmore 2!  My son wanted to do this!!! But he’s gonna be in school,” one social media user posted along with a picture of the line outside the Hyatt.

The talent agency Grant Wilfley Casting, Inc. put out an open casting call last week, noting that no acting experience was needed and that gig paid $216 per eight hours for SAG-AFTRA members and $176 per 10 hours for non-members.

“I love Adam Sandler and all his movies and I like trying new things, so I was willing to give [auditioning] a shot,” one young hopeful told PIX 11

The original debuted in 1996 and followed the titular Gilmore — a hockey-player-turned-golfer — with his funny drive as he joined the pro gold tour in a quest to earn enough money to save his grandmother’s house from the IRS.

“Happy Gilmore” had originally received mixed reviews from critics — it holds a 62 percent score on aggregator Rotten Tomatoes — but was a commercial success, pulling in nearly $40 million at the worldwide box office, according to Variety.
