Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi once again doubled down on her involvement in a pressure campaign aimed at getting President Biden to suspend his re-election bid during the first night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday.
CNN host Jake Tapper asked Pelosi if she has spoken with President Biden since his unprecedented decision to suspend his presidential campaign, leading to Harris securing the nomination without a single primary vote cast for her. Pelosi has been implicated as a major player in the scheme by a number of sources both inside the White House and the upper echelons of the Democratic Party. The former House speaker has also spoken candidly in a number of interviews this month as well, a theme she continued on Monday.
“I did what I had to do,” Pelosi told the panel. “He made the decision for the country. My concern was not about the president, it was about his campaign.”

Tapper asked her about any “residual bad blood,” between herself and the president, noting that Biden advisor Anita Dunn has reportedly voiced her disgust with Pelosi.
“Sometimes you just have to take a punch for the children,” Pelosi replied with a laugh.
A little over two weeks after President Biden decided to suspend his campaign, a “source close to the Biden family” told the New York Post about a highly coordinated plot hatched by top Democratic Party leaders aimed at pressuring Biden to resign. The plot involved former President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Pelosi, who were described by veteran journalist Seymour Harsh as “the big three” in a separate report.
A “well-placed Democratic source” told the New York Post that they have heard the same, and that Biden’s endorsement of Harris was his way of asserting control. The second source reported that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) wanted to hold a “mini primary” instead. Obama was reportedly confident that Harris would not win under such a scenario.
Multiple sources told the outlet that Obama was a big supporter of inserting Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) atop the Democratic Party ticket. Biden’s decision to endorse Harris was described as a “f**k you” to party leaders for forcing him out.
Pelosi, 84, has been described as perhaps the most active leader in the effort to oust Biden, according to a recent report from the Daily Mail.
The San Francisco Democrat reportedly threatened tocgo public with her concerns over Biden’s abilities if he refused to step aside. These concerns were conveyed directly to the president in a phone conversation in which Pelosi threatened to publish her own damaging poll information
The former House speaker’s demands were so effective that they triggered a “come to Jesus moment” for Biden, who then ordered his staffers to draft a letter of resignation from the race.
In addition, the report noted that tensions between Pelosi and Biden remain high and had not spoken to each other in weeks.
