Democrat Kamala Harris is reportedly planning to propose price controls on food in a speech Friday. She plans to “impose stiff penalties” for the food industry. She supposedly thinks that “corporate price gouging” is the reason that food prices are so high. It shows how little she understands about the economy, or government spending.

The slippery slope of price controls on the food industry

During the times of the Soviet Union, food prices were rigidly controlled by the regime. It led to severe food shortages. The institution of price controls inhibits the ability of producers to gain monetarily from their crops. If everyone has their prices controlled, it is also hard to pay workers. The availability of everything from fertilizer to animal feed becomes scarce. It’s a slippery slope right into poverty. Eventually, you run out of products, which leads to scarcity of food.

All in all, Kamala Harris plans for the nation include the use of a Marxist/Communist method that never worked and created even more problems. Price controls create more hunger, poverty, and scarcity, not less. She is an ideologue, and a dangerous one at that.
