Vice President Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), the Democratic nominee for president, is set to deliver a speech on her economic policies on Friday, although the speech will admittedly be “relatively light” when it comes to specific details and solutions.
According to the Washington Free Beacon, four anonymous sources close to the Harris-Walz campaign told the New York Times that the speech will aim to “lay out an approach relatively light on details” and “outline a sort of reboot of the [Biden-Harris] administration’s economic agenda.” The speech will take place in Raleigh, North Carolina, just two days after former President Donald Trump delivered a highly-praised speech on economic policy in Asheville, North Carolina.
The Times report added that Harris allegedly plans to “shift emphasis from Mr. Biden’s focus on job creation and made-in-America manufacturing, and toward efforts to rein in the cost of living.” However, she allegedly “will rarely break from Mr. Biden on substance.”
Harris’ decision to remain vague on details is considered to be a poor attempt at balancing on a thin line between doubling down on the failed policies of her administration and disavowing her superior, the former of which could earn her the ire of most Americans while the latter would cause further divisions among the Democratic base.
“My guess is that the vice president is going to look at this massive collection of Biden administration policies and emphasize the ones that are most important to her,” said Ben Harris, a former Treasury official and former economic advisor for the Biden-Harris 2020 campaign.
Despite having been the Democratic nominee for over three weeks, Harris has still refused to give a formal interview or hold an official press conference, completely avoiding the scrutiny of the mainstream media. She also does not have any policy positions listed on her campaign website, leading to criticism that the vice president does not have any plans for addressing the many crucial issues facing the country today. Critics have compared her current strategy to Joe Biden’s campaign strategy in 2020 of hiding in his basement and rarely making appearances.
