Speaking during a Sunday, August 11 interview on CBS News’s “Face the Nation” program, Senator and 2024 Trump running mate JD Vance spoke about how former President Trump will tackle the fentanyl crisis. According to Sen. Vance, former President Trump will go all out in a trade war to get them to stop the flow of fentanyl.

As background, though much of the fentanyl that is plaguing America comes from the Mexican cartels, the precursor chemicals for it come from factories in China. That is a major problem, as fentanyl has killed hundreds of thousands of Americans in recent years, a problem that has gotten even worse under the Biden-Harris Administration.

Host Margaret Brennan asked him about how he sees China, which is what sparked Sen. Vance’s comments about fentanyl. He said, “I think they’re both and I think that what we want to do here is build the kind of international order where we can check China. We don’t want to go to war with China, but certainly they’re an adversary.”

Continuing, he spoke about how the Chinese are behind the fentanyl crises and see Vice President Harris as being unwilling to do anything about the situation. He claimed, “For example, the Chinese know that they’re manufacturing tons of fentanyl, they’re letting come into our country. Kamala Harris has done nothing about this.”

Next, he said that Harris should up the pressure on the Chinese to stop the fentanyl, telling Brennan, “She should apply diplomatic and economic leverage over the Chinese to stop manufacturing this fentanyl, which then comes into the Mexican drug cartels, which they then ship into our country.”

Then, Sen. Vance argued that the way to fix the issue would be to put major pressure on the Chinese leadership and warn them of the consequences of not complying, saying, “Your entire economy is going to collapse unless you get access to American markets. You need to take this fentanyl seriously or we are going to impose serious tariffs and economic penalties for not following our laws and not helping us stem the flow of this deadly poison.”

He then said that the Trump Administration will do what it takes to stop the flow of fentanyl into America. Even, he said, the Trump-Vance Administration would, if Xi and China don’t comply with the request, demand, or threats, launch a full on trade war against China to force it to knuckle under and stop letting its factories pump the fentanyl precursor chemicals out and ship them to Mexico.

He said, speaking about that, “I think that we have a powerful economy, Margaret, with the best workers in the entire world. If we need to fight a trade war with the Chinese, we will fight it and we will win it, but we cannot do what Kamala Harris has done, which is be so terrified of using the economic power that we have that she’s not even willing to stop the flow of this deadly poison coming into our country.”
