President Joe Biden made numerous false claims about his record as president and about Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump during a softball interview that aired Sunday morning.
Biden made the remarks during an interview with Robert Costa on “CBS News Sunday Morning” in which Costa did not push back against any of Biden’s false claims nor did he ask Biden any remotely challenging questions about his numerous failures as president.
Biden claimed that before he dropped out that polls showed that his race against Trump was “neck and neck,” which largely does not reflect what public polling showed in the weeks after his disastrous debate performance against Trump in late June. He also said that he performed badly only because he was “sick” and that he had “no serious problem.”
He said that he dropped out because other Democrats told him that he was going to hurt their races and that he didn’t want to be a distraction during the remainder of the election cycle.
He said the other reason he dropped out was that he was so old that he “can’t even say how old I am.”
“It’s hard for me to get it out of my mouth and, uh, but things got moving so quickly, it didn’t happen,” he continued.
He said that his top priority as president was to stop Trump from becoming president again.
Biden again claimed that he decided to run for president because of the riot in Charlottesville and repeated debunked lie that Trump called neo-Nazis and white supremacists “very fine people.” The lie was so egregious that even left-wing Snopes has debunked it.
Biden also claimed that Trump represented the Ku Klux Klan in the White House, saying that they felt comfortable coming “out of those woods with no hoods” because they “had an ally.” Trump has repeatedly condemned white supremacy.
“They knew they had an ally in the White House, and he stepped up for them,” he falsely claimed.
Biden also lied when asked about what will happen with regard to the transfer of power next January when he is no longer president.
Biden said that he was not confident that there will be a peaceful transfer of power because of Trump’s comments about “there will be a bloodbath.” Biden’s claim is false, Trump’s remark was made specifically in reference to manufacturing jobs in the U.S. and how electing another Democrat to office will result in an economic “bloodbath for the country.”
Biden also falsely claimed that he “created 16 million jobs, real new jobs.” Biden’s claim is greatly distorted because the majority of those jobs, about 9 million, were lost during the pandemic and people were returning to their old jobs.
Biden said that the “biggest mistake” that his administration made was “we didn’t put up signs saying ‘Joe did it.'”
He also claimed that “MAGA Republicans” have no respect for “political institutions,” a claim that he made immediately after he called the Supreme Court “so out of whack” and in need of reform.
