Towards the end of June, Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters announced that public schools in the state are currently required to teach students about the Bible and the Ten Commandments

Watlers recently published a memorandum declaring that the Bible and the 10 Commandments are key pillars of Western civilization. He announced that this decision would be effective immediately

“This is not merely an educational directive but a crucial step in ensuring our students grasp the core values and historical context of our country,” Walters declared in the memo. He highlighted that the Bible and Ten Commandments had  a “substantial influence” on the country’s founders and the Constitution.

Rachel Laser, the president and chief executive of the non-profit organization Americans United for Separation of Church and State, declared that the decision is a “transparent, unconstitutional effort to indoctrinate and religiously coerce public school students.”

“This is textbook Christian Nationalism: Walters is abusing the power of his public office to impose his religious beliefs on everyone else’s children,” Laser proclaimed in a statement.

The Oklahoma Education Association was also critical of Walter‘s move, declaring that the order infringes on a state Supreme Court decision that granted school districts the right to choose what kind of literature is available in their respective classrooms.

“The State Superintendent cannot usurp local control and compel education professionals to violate the Constitution,” the group declared in a statement posted on X.

Walters stated that the purpose is for schools to teach the Bible as a key historical document by illustrating the role it played in shaping American history.

Walters views this decision as a way to stave off attempts by the radical left to rewrite history, Namely, through the removal of the Bible from public schools.

“This is a historical argument,” he declared. “The left can be offended, but that’s our history,” he continued.

Oklahoma’s move recently followed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry’s decision to sign a law mandating the display of the the Ten Commandments in all public school classrooms

Walter was elected to his position in 2022. He is a former AP history teacher and was previously a finalist for the Oklahoma State teacher of the year award.

Walter is a staunch opponent of woke influence in public schools.

He describes teacher unions as terrorist organizations, and believes that radical leftist activists have turned schools into Epstein islands for potential child predators.

The US needs as many firebrand conservatives using state power as possible. Pushing back against the Left is of the essence. The days of debating are over and now it’s time for the right to legislate, lest it wants to be thoroughly annihilated by the Left
