Biden to Enact Tough New Asylum Regulation

Is Joe Biden feeling the heat in an election year? “The Biden administration is planning to announce a new regulation as early as today that is designed to allow immigration officials to deport migrants who are ineligible for US asylum earlier in the process, three sources familiar with the internal plans told CBS News,” the network reports. “The regulation by the Department of Homeland Security would apply to migrants who ask for asylum after crossing the US-Mexico border illegally, according to the sources, who requested anonymity to talk about the rule before its formal announcement,” CBS relates.

2024 Deporter in Chief? “It would instruct government asylum officers to apply certain barriers to asylum that are already part of US law during so-called credible fear interviews. This is the first step in the years-long asylum process. Those who pass these interviews are allowed to seek asylum before an immigration judge, while those who fail them can be deported expeditiously.” Related: The Biden buyout of Democrat defectors…

House Quashes Greene Effort to Oust Mike Johnson

Embattled Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Wednesday easily dodged a leading GOP critic’s attempt to remove him from his post. “Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) appeared to catch most Congressional watchers by surprise when she moved to force a vote on her motion to vacate the chair, the procedural move which would allow for the vote. She noticed her resolution as ‘privileged,’ meaning House leaders had two legislative days to take it up,” Fox News reports. “But her bluff was called immediately when House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) rose to call for a vote on tabling Greene’s motion – which effectively kills it before the vote on Johnson’s ouster itself,” the network writes.

Lopsided Result: “Johnson got overwhelming Democratic and Republican support for the table vote, which passed 359-43, averting a vote on her motion. Just 11 Republicans voted against tabling the measure, along with 32 Democrats. On the Republican side, Johnson won the support of 196 members, while 163 Democrats also voted to shield him.” Related: MTG is coming for Mike Johnson – but the Democrats have his back…

Appeals Court Will Review Having Willis on Trump Case

Fani Willis is back in the line of fire. “A Georgia appeals court agreed Wednesday to review a lower court ruling in former President Trump’s 2020 state-level election case allowing Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to continue overseeing it,” Axios reports. “It’s a win for Trump’s legal team, which appealed the ruling and has successfully used delay tactics in the four criminal cases against him while he campaigns for a second term,” the news site notes.

Lover Removed: “Trump and multiple co-defendants have argued that Willis’ relationship with then-special prosecutor Nathan Wade caused a conflict of interest. Willis has blasted the accusations as politically motivated. After a months-long saga, Judge Scott McAfee ruled in March that Willis could continue on the case if Wade stepped down, which Wade did on the same day.” Related: The Fani Willis fallout continues…

Accused Laken Riley Killer Indicted on Ten Counts

An update in a notorious slaying that has enormous political implications. “The suspect accused of killing 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley has been formally indicted on murder and other offenses in connection with the brutal slaying on the University of Georgia campus,” ABC News reports. “A grand jury indicted Jose Ibarra, 26, with malice murder and felony murder in connection with the death of Riley, who was found dead in a wooded area on the Athens campus on Feb. 22 after she didn’t return from a run,” the network details. Ibarra is an illegal alien from Venezuela.

A Violent Death: “The indictment alleges that Ibarra killed the Augusta University student by ‘inflicting blunt force trauma to her head and by asphyxiating her’ and seriously disfigured her head by striking her ‘multiple times’ with a rock. Additional charges in the 10-count indictment include aggravated battery, kidnapping with bodily injury, aggravated assault with intent to rape, obstructing or hindering a person making an emergency telephone call and tampering with evidence. The latter charge alleged that he ‘knowingly concealed’ evidence – a jacket and gloves – involving the offense of malice murder.” Related: Has US become a dumping ground for criminal migrants?

DC Council Candidate Has Car Stolen While Tidying Sign

The crime wave plaguing the nation’s capital doesn’t spare politicians running for office. “A Washington, DC, city council candidate had his car stolen from him while he was fixing up some of his campaign signs Tuesday morning,” the Washington Examiner reports. “Paul Johnson was hanging up campaign signs near Rock Creek Park. Johnson said he got out of his car to fix one of his campaign signs that was off-kilter. He left the car running with the key in the ignition when he heard another car pull up behind him and it became clear to him what was going to happen next,” the paper states.

Jacked: “‘What appeared to be at least three individuals in the car, popped out of the back seat and jumped into my car,’ Johnson told the Examiner. He said they were staring at him, where he was standing steps away from the vehicle.  ‘They said, “Don’t move.”’ Johnson complied and did not move or say anything back to the perpetrators. He said the way they were standing made it appear to him that they were armed. The people drove off with his car.” Related: Mail theft and crimes against postal workers rising…
