Philadelphia's Democrat Mayor Cherelle Parker posted on X that she supports Josh Shapiro as Kamala Harris' pick for the VP spot on the presidential ticket. "Proud to be back with so many leaders from across our region supporting Kamala Harris for President and Josh Shapiro for VP!" Parker wrote on X in a post she pinned to the top of her profile. The post caused some confusion as many read it as a premature announcement of the Harris campaign's selection of Shapiro.

"We are One CITY, One REGION, and ONE Commonwealth United!" She said. Harris is expected to hold a rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday along with her pick for veep, which has not been announced by the campaign. Shapiro is at the top of the list in rumor speculation and cancelled his weekend fundraising events in New York's tony Hamptons as others who has been reportedly under consideration, such as Gretchen Whitmer and Roy Cooper, announced that they were not going to be on the ticket alongside Harris.

The post was accompanied by a campaign video backing Harris and Shapiro for president and vice president respectively. Local and regional leaders joined in to express their support for the duo. The Friday post comes on the same day that Harris got support from delegates who had voted for Biden in the primary and been designated to throw their full support behind him at the DNC in August. Those delegates are now backing Harris, though she has not won a primary, or even run in one. Harris already referred to herself as the "president" at a memorial for deceased lawmaker Sheila Jackson Lee.

Philadelphia Magazine's Ernest Owens said that the post was intended to be scheduled but that it was accidentally posted. "SCOOP," he posted, "Philly political sources have told me that a staffer connected with Mayor Cherelle Parker's team accidentally posted the video today. The video was scheduled for Monday...after VP Kamala Harris was expected to announce her pick. It's Josh Shapiro, y'all."

"The video was far from clear whether Mayor Parker was simply promoting the Pennsylvania governor's chances of winning the veepstakes or accidentally scooping Kamala Harris' big announcement," local paper The Philadelphia Inquirer said. They spoke to anonymous sources, as well, to debunk the notion that she'd leaked the announcement accidentally.

"Lmfao there is a 100% they were supposed to schedule this post for next week but some dumb staffer for the Mayor of Philadelphia accidentally just revealed that Kamala Harris is picking Shapiro as her VP," Greg Price said.
 

"This is not an announcement of anything. This is just the mayor showing her support for a longtime friend who we know is one of the people being considered," the source reportedly said, per the Inquirer. The Inquirer said that "Attempts to reach Parker’s campaign were not immediately successful. But The Inquirer reached a source close to Parker who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak on behalf of her campaign."

"I can’t think of a better partner than our governor, Josh Shapiro," said Parker in the video accompanying her post.
