Vice President Kamala Harris has recently been criticized on social media for unveiling a previously unheard “southern accent” during her recent rally in Atlanta, Georgia.  Many have accused Harris of trying to pander to her audience at the rally, where she broke out into what appeared to be a stereotypical, disingenuous Southern drawl that she typically does not speak with.

“You all helped us in 2020, and we gon’ do it again in twenty twenty fouah,” Kamala said.  She also attempted to highlight her record on immigration during the clip, over which the Biden-Harris administration has received substantial criticism.  “I will proudly put my record against his any day of the week. Any day of the week, including, for example, on the issue of immigration.”

Conservative commentator on X Collin Rugg posted the clip from the rally, writing, “VP Kamala Harris unveils her new southern accent in Atlanta, Georgia.”  The footage drew incessant criticism from users on the social media platform, who called out the vice president over the seemingly fake accent she put on for the Atlanta speech.

One person compared Harris’s enunciation to a former speech by Hillary Clinton, who once used an atypical southern accent during her past remarks.  One user commented, “Straight out of the Clinton playbook…”  Rugg responded, “Who did it better?” while sharing an old clip of Clinton speaking as a then-Democratic senator in New York, deploying an obviously exaggerated manner of speaking, seemingly to relate to the crowd of southerners.

Conservative influencer Paul A. Szypula wrote, “I mean, what did we expect? We’ve seen this all before. She changes her accent to pander to the audience. Kamala is a fraud.”  Focusing on Harris highlighting her rhetoric on immigration, Wall Street Apes wrote, “We have a Presidential Candidate who openly brags about breaking United States law with record illegal immigration. How the f*** did we get here?”

Since stepping up to become the Democratic Party’s presumptive presidential nominee, Kamala Harris has been the subject of intense scrutiny. The American Tribune recently reported on a newly launched investigation from America First Legal into Harris’ former role as a prosecutor and attorney general, which has garnered extensive criticism.

Dan Epstein, president of the AFL, disputed the idea that she was a tough-on-crime prosecutor, stating, “A lot of her tough-on-crime reputation goes to her prosecution when she was San Francisco DA, individuals who use marijuana and other sorts of things. Our investigation, however, makes it very clear that Kamala Harris does not believe much in terms of statutes passed by legislatures, including the Federal United States, Congress, as well as the state of California.”

Epstein further added, “And so those are really our probes of her not following the rule of law and bending it for a political objective,” he said. “We also probe numerous kind of potential ethics issues and failures to disclose conflicts of interest, allowing her own staff as attorney general to engage in fraud and not kind of overseeing that.”
