The father of an intern who worked in Kamala Harris’ office when she was the Attorney General of California, said she routinely berated staffers with F-bombs and did not allow interns to address her or “look her in the eye.” Harris also reportedly required her intimidated staffers to stand when she entered the office each day and say, “good morning General.”

The father, Terry McAteer, is a member of the editorial board at the Union, a newspaper in Grass Valley, California. McAteer,  a liberal Democrat, previously served six- four-year terms as the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools.

In an opinion piece for the Union, McAteer said that a few years back, his son Gregory secured a summer non-paid internship with the late Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein in her San Francisco office.

McAteer said after Gregory was unable to start in Feinstein’s office that June, he was told that then-Attorney General Kamala Harris was looking for summer interns.

The next few weeks were an “eye-opening experience” for the young man, and his month in the AG’s Office “could not pass quickly enough,” according to McAteer.

The journalist was careful to note that he has “nothing against” Harris, and even declared that she is a “good orator” who has “done some fine things while holding elective office.”

McAteer explained he felt it was important to disclose what he knows about Harris’ callous personality because “a person’s character is probably one of the most important attributes for someone wanting to obtain the office of President.”

The Democrat listed four examples of Harris’ extremely unpleasant behavior as observed by Gregory during his month-long internship in her office.

• Senator Harris vocally throws around “F-bombs” and other profanity constantly in her berating of staff and others. The staff is in complete fear of her and she uses her profanity throughout the day.

• As Attorney General, Senator Harris instructed her entire staff to stand every morning as she entered the office and say, “Good Morning General.”

• Never once during the month-long internship did Harris introduce herself to our son (as he was only in an office with 20 paid employees) and staff was too intimidated by her to introduce him. The only acknowledgment was a form letter of “thanks” signed by Harris given to him on his last day of service.

• Gregory was also given instructions to never address Harris nor look her in the eye as that privilege was only allowed to senior staff members.

“I don’t know about you but this is not the workplace of someone who respects her staff,” McAteer wrote. “For a woman of color to have employees stand when she enters the room smacks of a bygone era that we, as Americans, deplore and find demeaning,” he added.

As American Greatness previously reported, after assuming the vice presidency in 2021, Harris’ V.P. office quickly earned a reputation as “an abusive environment” for staffers.  It’s why she saw frequent staff turnover, with 91.5 percent of her employees quitting since she was sworn in.

Twenty-four employees from April 2023 to this past March quit, reported the watchdog organization Open the Books.  Of the 47 staffers that started with Harris, only four have reportedly stayed with her.

McAteer said Harris didn’t have the “leadership skills” to be a “decent boss” and that he found it “really troubling” she lacked “the class to approach Gregory at least once during the month to say ‘Hi, I’m Kamala Harris and I want to thank you for volunteering in my office.'”

“What is up with the ‘don’t look her in the eye’ instruction? I know I wouldn’t want to work in that hostile environment!” McAteer added.

The journalist praised his son for being “willing to put his own integrity on the line” by going public with the disturbing truth about Harris “because the truth is important to him.”
