House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) has opened an investigation into possible collusion between the Biden Department of Justice and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on crafting the dubious “hush money” indictment of former President Donald Trump.

In a letter letter sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Jordan demanded documents and information concerning the Biden DOJ’s “politicized prosecution” of Trump. Jordan noted that Matthew Colangelo, a former senior DOJ official, is working as a lead prosecutor for Bragg on the case.

It also notes that the key testimony in the case is that of Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer who was convicted of tax evasion and perjury in matters unrelated to then-President Trump.

“Since last year, popularly elected prosecutors—who campaigned for office on the promise of prosecuting President Trump—engaged in an unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority: the indictment of a former President of the United States and current leading candidate for that office,” Jordan wrote in a press release.

House Republicans are demanding documents and information relating to Colangelo’s time at the DOJ.

“Mr. Colangelo’s recent employment history demonstrates his obsession with investigating a person rather than prosecuting a crime. At the New York Attorney General’s Office, Mr. Colangelo ran investigations into President Trump, leading ‘a wave of state litigation against Trump administration policies,’” Jordan wrote in the letter to Attorney General Garland.

It went on to note that Colangelo was far from any DOJ employee. When Biden took office on January 20, 2021, Colangelo began serving as the Acting Associate Attorney General, the third most senior position in the department.

“As the Committee has previously explained, Bragg’s politicized prosecution of President Trump has serious consequences for federal interests. That a former senior Biden Justice Department official is now leading the prosecution of President Biden’s chief political rival only adds to the perception that the Biden Justice Department is politicized and weaponized,” the letter continued.

The former president has currently been trapped in Manhattan on most weekdays as he defends himself in the case.

Legal experts have repeatedly poked holes in the case against Trump brought forward by Bragg. The Manhattan D.A. used COVID-era policies to expand the statute of limitations on an administrative payment error, which is generally a misdemeanor. Bragg then upgraded the charge to a felony, citing a “conspiracy” to commit another crime. The other crime has never been specified by Bragg.
