Democrats have received a “talking points” memo to use in defense of Vice President Kamala Harris when confronted with her role as a failed “border czar” after years of chaos and record illegal crossings along the southern and northern U.S. borders, according to Fox News.

The report said an unnamed Democratic lawmaker who confirmed the memo told the outlet that they were not sure who was responsible for its distribution. Fox obtained a copy of the memo, which was also posted to social media.

Among the talking points:

— Harris was never appointed “border czar”

— The title was “invented by Republicans” and the media

— Harris was never asked by Biden to lead immigration and border policy

— The VP was tasked with addressing the “root causes” of mass migration, with a focus on Central America

— Mass migration from “root causes” countries like Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador has decreased

The memo comes as the issue of illegal immigration and migrants flooding American cities has become a top concern this election cycle.

Per Outkick, some Democratic lawmakers seem to have adopted the talking points in their media responses already. On Thursday, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Barragán responded to Fox’s question using the exact phrasing from the provided talking points.

“Well, first of all, this is more misinformation and disinformation. The vice president was never in charge of the border. She was never in charge of immigration policy. On the contrary, it’s Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is in charge of border policy. He’s in charge under Homeland Security,” he said.

“And Republicans already tried to impeach him and failed. So what are they doing now? They’re making it up and blaming her. What vice president Harris was in charge of addressing the root causes of migration, a diplomatic effort in other countries in the Northern Triangle, and in specific, and you ask, what did she do?” he continued.

“She helped raise $5 billion to invest in the economy in these countries, with the private sector and when she first started, migration from those countries started at 41%. 41% of people that were marketing were coming from the northern Triangle countries in 2023, which went down to 21%. So don’t come and start the false lies because we’re going to make sure to correct them,” he added.

Mayorkas was impeached by a single vote in the House in February, but Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) ensured the articles were quickly dismissed without a full trial in the Democrat-controlled Senate in April.

Also, illegal crossings have continued to set records throughout the Biden-Harris administration, regardless of whether migration from the “root causes” countries has slowed somewhat. Also, Harris has never offered any solution regarding those illegal migrants, nor does she support deporting them back to their home countries, though a majority of Americans do, including 42 percent of Democrats.

Most of the mainstream media, which leans left, is on board with ditching the “border czar” label, though the same outlets have used the term to describe Harris since President Biden assigned her to deal with the situation in March 2021, just a few months into their term.

“I’ve asked her, the VP, today — because she’s the most qualified person to do it — to lead our efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle and the countries that help — are going to need help in stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border,” Biden said at the time.

The New York Post highlighted several outlets last week that have now changed their reporting, claiming that Harris was never a “border czar.” They include Axios, Newsweek, and USA Today, among others.
