The Kamala Harris campaign posted a statement spreading a hoax that Donald Trump promised to "end American democracy" during a speech on Friday. The campaign used a clip that omitted key context in Donald Trump's speech, suggesting the GOP nominee wants to end elections.

The Harris campaign posted the following statement with a clip taken out of context from the speech on Friday at a Turning Point USA event and spread the hoax that Trump wanted end elections when he was encouraging people to vote in 2024 so that election integrity would be very secure if he became president.

The GOP nominee was talking about election integrity at great length during his speech, saying, "We have to have voter ID, it's called voter identification" and called for fixing voting laws. He called for paper ballots and other measures to ensure the voting process, however the clip in the post was taken out of context and did not include the message about fixing the voting system.

After saying Democrats are not willing to use voter ID, Trump added the following:

"Now there's only one reason they do that, they want to cheat... You know in their National Convention when they had their convention they have a voter tag on them bigger than their chest." Trump added that Democrats have their full name and a serial number to get into the DNC. "But with voting — one of your most important things you can do, maybe in many ways your most important — they don't want to approve voter ID. That's because they want to cheat."

Trump then said, "Republicans must win we have to win this election most important election ever. We want a landslide that's too big to rig. If you want to save America, get your friends, get your family get everyone you know, and vote. Vote early vote absentee vote on Election Day. I don't care how but you have to get out and vote. And again, Christians get out and vote just this time," he added, appealing to Christians who may not voted in other elections. "You won't have to do it anymore four more years you know what it'll be fixed it'll be fine. You won't have to vote anymore my beautiful Christians, I love you. Get out, you got to get out and vote. In four years you don't have to vote again we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."

In typical Trump style, he used hyperbole to drive home his point, quipping that election integrity would be so strong under his presidency that “you're not going to have to vote.” From the context, it’s clear he’s referring to Christians who may support him but don’t typically vote, as he said "Christians get out and vote, just this time."

The quip is being used by the campaign to falsely claim that Trump is pledging to end elections and American Democracy as opposed to making a humorous point about how elections will be determined by simple paper ballots and same-day voting, as his platform states.
