Following scenes appearing to mock the Last Supper with drag queens during the opening scenes at the Olympics in Paris on Friday, the French Bishops Conference from the Vatican has come out to condemn the performance's “scenes of derision and mockery of Christianity.” 

In a statement released the day of the games' opening ceremony, the French Bishops Conference took aim at the performance. After applauding some of the "moments of beauty" in the ceremony, the bishops said that the performance "included scenes of derision and mockery of Christianity, which we deeply deplore," per the Vatican News. 

In solidarity with Christians everywhere, the Vatican added in the statement, "We think of all Christians on all continents who have been hurt by the outrageousness and provocation of certain scenes," the bishops added. "We hope that they understand that the Olympic celebration extends far beyond the ideological biases of a few artists." Drag queens performed during the opening ceremonies and appeared to depict the Last Supper. 

The Olympics stated on X that the drag queens appearing to act out the Last Supper was actually an "interpretation of the Greek God Dionysus” that “makes us aware of the absurdity of violence between human beings." 

According to Business Insider, the ceremony started with a phrase referencing the French Revolution, "Ca ira." It was the title of a song during the revolution at the time and roughly translates to "It will be ok." There was also NSFW content, where LGBTQ couples appeared kissing and three people entered a bedroom together, possibly depicting polyamory. 

A performer dressed up as Marie Antionette with her head severed off in a heavy metal musical performance. Antoinette was the last queen consort of France before she was beheaded following the beginning of the French Revolution. The revolution saw the dechristianization of France and the Reign of Terror, where Catholic priests and bishops were executed by angry mobs in the late 1700s. 

Some clips of the opening ceremonies appearing to mock Christianity have been taken off X due to the media being disabled "in response to a report by the copyright owner." NBC was the main news broadcaster in charge of the ceremony’s streaming.

Gays Against Groomer posted about the imagery in the ceremony, "We are absolutely disgusted to see these drag queens and half-naked gender cultists dance around little kids at the Olympics for the entire world to watch." 

"This agenda isn't just an American issue. It's global. And if this doesn't horrify you, then you aren't paying attention." 

Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) wrote in response to some of the clips, "Is there a “G-rated” version of the opening ceremonies at the Olympics? If not, can VidAngel offer a version suitable for families?" 

Libs of TikTok posted, "The Olympics has basically turned into one long drag show. The Olympics has gone completely woke." 

The Daily Wire's Matt Walsh wrote, "The Olympics opens by making a demonic mockery of the Christian faith."
