In her first officially “rally” as a presidential candidate after Joe Biden stepped down from the campaign, VP Kamala Harris said she wants to enact a gun ban.
Said Harris at her speech in West Allis, WI:
We, who believe that every person should have the freedom to live safe from the terror of gun violence, will finally pass red flag laws, universal background checks, and an assault weapons ban.
Her statement shouldn’t be surprising, given that Biden had appointed Harris in 2023 to be head the White Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
As head of that office, Harris advocated for enactment of universal background checks legislation and banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Goals for the office also included increasing requirements for gun storage and lost firearms reporting, and increased accountability for the firearms industry using liability laws.
Jon Harvey, the president and founder of Utah-based Iron Sight Coffee Brewing Co., had this to say about Kamala’s statement:
Typical democratic rhetoric on guns. If you can’t control the guns in Chicago with the most restrictive gun laws, how do you think it’s gonna work for the rest of the country?
Harvey, who founded Iron Sight in 2023, is a longtime political activist in Utah and host of The Modern Conservative Podcast.
From her past statements about reparations for black people to wanting to reduce Americans’ consumption of red meat, Harris’ extremist statements, past and present, are in the spotlight.
