Following Biden’s withdrawal as the Democratic Party’s de facto nominee on Sunday, former President Donald Trump declared that Vice President Kamala Harris would be less difficult to defeat in November than President Joe Biden.

About half an hour after declaring on Sunday that he would not seek reelection, Biden backed Harris to succeed him.

Harris’s chances of winning the nomination are uncertain. FiveThirtyEight reports that her approval rating is 36% countrywide.

After Biden resigned, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins covered Trump’s comments on her network:

“Minutes after Joe Biden declared his withdrawal from the 2024 contest, former President Trump said, “He is the worst president in our nation’s history,” in a phone conversation with CNN. He will go down as our nation’s all-time worst president. Trump stated he believes VP Harris would be simpler to beat than Biden, even though it is unknown who the Democratic nominee will be.”

Trump Jr. attacked Harris, saying that she was “much more leftist and less capable than Joe.”

“Joe Biden’s whole left-wing policy record belongs to Kamala Harris. The only thing that separates them is that she is even less qualified and even more leftist than Joe, which is really saying something. We witnessed the largest influx of illegal immigrants in our nation’s history when she took control of the border.”

Both Biden and Harris would be the nominees, according to Trump’s statement to Breitbart News in December.

“He is an infringer. He is a despicable person. He’s a villain,” Trump declared. “However, he has always been able to persuade others that he is a genuinely kind person. When people say things like, “Trump is the guy who is horrible,” I laugh. “He has only been able to accomplish that one thing. All you need to do is check his qualifications. He is a different type of man now than he was fifteen or twenty years ago. The man is mute. The man is unable to connect two phrases. So, I firmly believe that it’s highly unlikely that he will be the nominee. I find it unbelievable that he will be the nominee.”

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), Gov. J. B. Pritzker (D-IL), Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), Harris, and Hillary Clinton—a twice-failed presidential contender—are among the possible contenders to challenge Biden at the head of the 2024 ticket.

On July 9, an internal study by former Obama campaign pollster Fernand Amandi promoted Harris and Clinton above Biden.

According to Bendixen & Amandi’s Amandi survey, Harris was one point ahead of Trump (42-41 percent). Additionally, Clinton outscored Trump by two percentage points (43–41).

According to the survey, Whitmer was four points behind Trump (36–40 percent), while Newsom was three points behind (37–40 percent).
