Just days after his lackluster performance in the first 2024 debate against Donald Trump, President Joe Biden landed in the Hamptons on Saturday afternoon, gripping first lady Jill Biden’s arm and wearing a frozen grimace.
Biden, 81, and the first lady were unified in their appearance, right down to their matching blue suits, when they arrived at the Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach.
Despite widespread calls for the president to resign following his concerning debate performance, he and the first lady attended a star-studded fundraiser on Long Island at the home of hedge-fund billionaire Barry Rosenstein and his wife, Lizanne, the first of two major donor events that Biden had in the metro area on Saturday.
Prominent individuals, such as the celebrity duos of Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan and Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, were rumored to have spent as much as $250,000 to socialize with the president.
“Sources said Howard and Beth Stern, Loews Hotels CEO Jonathan Tisch and his socialite wife Lizzie, and Donald Trump’s former White House Director of Communications Anthony Scaramucci were also in attendance. Attendees of the well-heeled event were said to be ‘extremely disappointed’ in Biden’s fumbling debating Thursday — which raised serious questions about his mental fitness,” the New York Post reported.
“Everyone paid in advance . . . so it could be an opportunity to encourage him to drop out,” an invited guest told The Post.

“I wanted to go and see the train wreck. I’d rather choose someone from a phone book than have Biden,” another donor said.
“Joe was totally alert. . . . He didn’t make excuses, just the comment, ‘I didn’t have a great night.’ But he added we aren’t going to quit until we win,” a source told the Post.

Despite the president’s obviously shaky debate performance, Jill Biden nonetheless heaped praise on him at the event.
“Joe, you did such a great job! You answered every question, you knew all the facts!” Jill Biden cheered for a smiling Joe Biden on stage.
“And let me ask the crowd. “What did Trump do?” the first lady continued, turning to the audience and gesturing before shouting, “Lie!”

The video has gone viral across social media since the debate, with many articles reporting on Jill Biden’s manner of speaking being reminiscent of praising a child.

This week, Jill said that her husband Joe Biden’s age isn’t a problem and that it should not prevent Americans from re-electing him later this year — despite his numerous gaffes, constant struggles to deliver a coherent sentence, or polling showing worries among voters that he is too old to hold office.
MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski asked Jill on Thursday: “To those who say, ‘I can’t vote for Joe Biden, he’s too old,’ what do you say?”
“I say his age is an asset. He’s wise, he has wisdom, he’s experienced. He knows every leader on the world stage. He’s lived history, he knows history, he’s thoughtful in his decisions. He is the right man, the right person, for the job at this moment in history,” she claimed.
“He can do it. I see Joe every day. I see him out, traveling around this country, I see his vigor, I see his energy, I see his passion every single day,” she added.
