The House Majority PAC recently revealed plans to launch a $100 million fund concentrated on advancing abortion rights.

In a memo sent to donors, the House Majority PAC explained how the Reproductive Freedom Accountability Fund would make pro-abortion policies a major theme in the 2024 presidential election cycle. It detailed how the money will be spent in swing districts nationwide for advertising and voter mobilization. On top of that, the fund will focus on conducting voter outreach in House districts in safe states such as in New York, California, Oregon, Washington, and Virginia.

The House will be a competitive chamber in 2024 with 217 Republicans and 213 Democrats, with five vacancies. The Cook Political Report believies 11 seats held by each party are in the tossup category, where they could go either way.

With President Joe Biden floundering at the polls, Democrats are grasping for every straw possible to try to keep the incumbent president in office. And they believe that abortion could be a winning issue for Democrats.

The logic is that Republicans’ recent hardline turn on abortion restriction has made them increasingly unpopular with voters in the wake of the 2022 Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. For his part, former President Donald Trump has taken a more centrist stance on the matter, believing that states should craft their own abortion laws.

House Majority PAC President Mike Smith claimed that the heightened focus on pro-abortion policies has mobilized voters “to focus on reproductive freedoms as one of the defining campaign messages of the 2024 cycle.”

Super PACs can accept unlimited donations from individuals and corporations. In the 2024 presidential election cycle, key donors for the House Majority PAC consisted of Reed Hastings, the co-founder and executive chairman of Netflix, and entrepreneur Fred Eychaner, per reports by OpenSecrets.

According to a recent Wall Street Journal poll that surveyed 7 battleground states, 39% of suburban women view abortion as a make-or-break issue for them at the polls. In effect, it’s the most pressing issue for this demographic cohort. Of this female demographic, close to 75% indicated that the procedure should be legal all or the majority of the time.

Suburban women indicated that abortion is a principal reason to support President Biden, and 57% of the same demographic signaled that Trump’s policies on abortion were too stringent.

Trump’s stance on abortion is solid. Let the states handle it. For now, immigration, crime, and the economy are the main issues motivating voters. The populist Right should be focusing all of its attention on these issues at the federal level.

In the meantime, hardcore pro-lifers should be more focused on turning solid red states into pro-life spaces in every respect.
