The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said it took Blake Robinson, 29, into custody on charges of burglary and battery on a person over the age of 65 following the attempted car theft Thursday that saw the suspect and the victim trade blows.
Authorities said the victim heard a noise outside his home and saw Mr. Robinson trying to break into the car.
After calling 911, police said the victim confronted the suspect, which is when the assailant attacked the 66-year-old man and threw him to the ground.
The sheriff’s office said the older victim was also kicked in the head, but managed to fend off the thief and even take control of the situation.
“Deputies arrived on scene and were able to quickly detain Robinson, who was seemingly having a tough time getting up off of the ground, after getting his butt whipped by a 66-year-old man,” Sheriff Wayne Ivey wrote in a press release. “That’s right Mr. Tough Guy, Robinson, got manhandled by a 66-year-old man who thankfully only required brief medical treatment and was left without any serious injuries.”
Police said Mr. Robinson received medical treatment before being booked on a $30,000 bond in the Brevard County Jail.
