President Joe Biden is seeking to dispel concerns about his age and fitness for the job after a politically damaging debate performance.
At a rally in North Carolina on Friday, Biden appeared energetic and his demeanor bore little resemblance to the man millions of Americans saw on the debate stage the previous night.
Addressing concerns about his age, the president told supporters, “I don’t walk as easily as I used to, I don’t talk as smoothly as I used to, I don’t debate as well as I used to.”
“But I know what I do know: I know how to tell the truth, I know right from wrong, and I know how to do this job… And I know like millions of Americans know, when you get knocked down, you get back up,” he continued. “I give you my word as a Biden, I would not be running again if I didn’t believe with all my heart and soul I could do this job, because quite frankly, the stakes are too high.”

Despite insisting he knows how to tell the truth, during the debate, he falsely claimed he is the only president in the last decade to not have U.S. soldiers die abroad while he was in office.
Biden turned in a raspy, rambling performance at the debate where it was hard to hear and follow what he was saying, and now Democrats are reportedly in a panic about the future of his candidacy.
Fox News’ Jacqui Heinrich shared two texts she received from Democrats. One read, “The race is over.”
Meanwhile, another said, “We are f***ed.”
The New York Times and other outlets published several op-eds calling on Biden to step aside after the debate. Additionally, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) argued the Cabinet should consider invoking the 25th amendment.
Yet, shortly after the debate, Biden was seen at a Waffle House.
One reporter asked, “Mr. President, how do you think you performed tonight?”
Former President Barack Obama also sought to tamp down concerns about Biden, writing on X, “Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself.”
Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November,” he added.
