“Think You’re Ready?”: Dem Governor Refuses to Comment on Replacing Brandon “Should the Wheels Come Off”

If Biden gets noticeably and worryingly worse before the November election, who will replace him as the Democratic nominee? Rumors have swirled about Hillary Clinton, Kamala Harris, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and now Maryland Governor Wes Moore, who appeared on Fox News Channel and spoke with host Brian Kilmeade about the matter.

That interview came on Wednesday, June 19, when Gov. Moore appeared on “Fox & Friends” with Brian Kilmeade and discussed what would happen and if he thinks he can handle the presidency “should the wheels come off” Biden before November. Their conversation came in the context of calls for Biden to drop out over his poor polling against former President Donald Trump.

Introducing the matter, Kilmeade commented to Moore on the Baltimore bridge disaster and his handling of it, saying, “A Republican told me, they said ‘when this bridge collapsed, this is going to be a test for Governor Moore. Because people think he’s going to be presidential material. And if he can get this done quickly, this would be a great launching pad for him.’”

Continuing, he added that, so far, things aren’t going too poorly, which reflects relatively well on Moore’s leadership given the current problems in America. He connected that to the Biden campaign, asking Moore if he feels capable of taking over. He said, “So far you’re doing it. And that’s why people are floating your name as a possible President Biden replacement, should the wheels come off come the August convention. Your reaction?”

Gov. Moore, for his part, refused to comment on the matter, instead remaining positive about President Biden. Beginning by commenting on his support of Biden and his state’s economic situation, he said, “I’m full-throated in my support of President Biden because I know so much of the momentum that we’ve been able to see in the state of Maryland. When I was first inaugurated we were 43rd in unemployment. Now we have amongst the lowest unemployment rates in the entire country.”

Continuing, he commented on how the notoriously violent state has somewhat improved in recent years, telling Kilmeade, “We’ve been able to slash the homicides rates and violent crime rates in the state of Maryland where Baltimore now is the fastest drop of homicides of almost any major American city in this country.”

Connecting that to the Biden Administration and how he has worked wit them to try to fix the situation, Moore said, “We’ve done it because we’ve moved bipartisan. We’ve done it because we’ve moved and built bridges. We’ve done it in partnership with the Biden Administration. And I’m excited for another four years to have a chance to work with President Biden.”

Kilmeade followed up by directly asking Moore how he would react to being a named as a replacement for Biden if things go poorly for the Biden Campaign, saying, “What about if your name was offered as a possible replacement, should something happen at the convention? How would you feel about that? Do you think you’re ready?”

Gov. Moore again refused to give an answer on replacing Biden, saying, “I think that President Biden is not just the nominee. President Biden is the best candidate for the presidency and is the reason I’m supporting him. And the reason that I look forward to engaging all throughout the campaign season to get him reelected,”

Watch them here:

As background, pollster Nate Silver called on Biden to step down if things keep going poorly for him, saying, “If Biden is still struggling in August he needs to consider stepping aside. It’s not a great situation for Ds either way, but you have to do due diligence on the question. It’s an important election, obviously. It shouldn’t be taboo to talk about.”
