Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas called, on Friday, June 21, for the death penalty for the two illegal immigrants called with murdering a 12-year-old Houston girl, if they are convicted of the horrific murder. Sen. Cruz also called out President Joe Biden’s border policies for the sickening slaying of the young girl, saying that they led to the illegal immigrants coming across the border and killing her.

As background, young Jocelyn Nungaray, a mere 12 years old, was found dead on Monday, June 17. She had been strangled to death and was found in a creek. The two who were charged with her murder are Johan Jose Martinez Rangel, 22, and Franklin Pena, 26. Both of the alleged murderers are from Venezuela, and they are each charged with capital murder.

Harris County Assistant District Attorney Michael Abner, describing what happened in the brutal slaying of the young girl, said, “In this case the defendant lured a 12-year-old under a bridge, where he and his co-defendant remained with her for over 2 hours, took her pants off, tied her up, and killed her, then threw her body into the bayou,”

Sen. Cruz took to X to post about the murder in his state and make his position on the murderers and what punishment they should receive known. He said, in his Friday post on X, that the crime was “horrifying” and the alleged murderers, if guilty, should receive the death penalty. He said, “This is horrifying. If guilty, both of these men should receive the death penalty for this horrible crime.”

Continuing, he connected the sickening murder at the hands of two illegal immigrants to President Biden’s border policies, saying, “These men are illegal aliens and Jocelyn Nungaray would still be alive and with her family if not for Joe Biden’s open border policies. The Biden administration is directly responsible. My heart goes out to Jocelyn’s family.”

Cruz also called on President Biden to reimplement the “Remain in Mexico” policy that Trump implemented with great success, saying, “He must reinstate Remain in Mexico and end catch-and-release immediately, or we will lose more innocent life. There is no time for half measures – we need to look at what works, and do it now.”

The two alleged murderers were indeed caught and released, as an Immigration and Customs spokesperson admitted, saying, “On March 14, Martinez was apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol near El Paso, Texas. That same day he was released on an order of recognizance with a notice to appear.” The spokesperson continued, “Pena was apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol on May 28 near El Paso. He was also released on an order of recognizance with a notice to appear the same day he was apprehended.”

Former President Donald Trump, commenting on the matter in a post on Truth Social, wrote, “We have a new Biden Migrant Killing – It’s only going to get worse, and it’s all Crooked Joe Biden’s fault. He’s a disgrace to the Office of President, he’s a disgrace to America. I look forward to seeing him at the Fake Debate on Thursday. Let him explain why he has allowed MILLIONS of people to come into our Country illegally!”
