The Associated Press has projected that maverick challenger Dave McCormick will unseat pro-abortion Democrat Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania who has held the seat since 2007.

Sen. Casey has refused to concede the race. It could be argued, however, that Casey conceded long ago.

He conceded to the abortion industry, turning away from the pro-life roots established by his father, the late Governor Robert Casey Sr.

He conceded to party bosses who push abortion all the way up to birth.

He conceded his heritage, which had treasured and protected innocent human life.

In the beginning Sen. Casey cast pro-life votes, but over the years that radically changed. In an appalling turnabout, Casey voted for a bill that would have dismantled the very measure his courageous father had signed into law.

The deceptively-named Women’s Health Protection Act would wipe out protections such as informed consent, parental consent, and 24-hour waiting periods for abortion–provisions his father had fought for. The federal bill would eliminate the state’s long-standing Abortion Control Act, leaving preborn babies and their mothers completely vulnerable.

I hope that Sen. Casey does some genuine soul-searching in the wake of his electoral defeat. I pray that he comes to understand that his about-face on the life issue was the wrong decision.

Miraculous as it may seem, I hope that, in the end, he will side with his father again
