AOC’s crystal ball was a bit foggy this election.

In a live stream on Instagram, an evidently downcast Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) attributed Donald Trump’s overwhelming electoral success to what she perceives as pervasive sexism, offering a wide-ranging commentary that mixed excuses with political forecasts. The Congresswoman lamented the election results with an air of disbelief.

“Hello everyone. Taking a minute or two to let you all hop on. Hey everybody. It’s Alexandria here, Alex. Hope y’all are hanging in there,” AOC began, setting a somber tone as viewers trickled into the virtual gathering. She quickly dove into a discussion about the emotional state of her supporters, acknowledging, “I would ask how you’re doing but I think a lot of us especially I kind of posted something similar to that question in my Q&A’s earlier and a lot of people are feeling very similar things.”

As the stream progressed, AOC laid out the “lay of the land,” mentioning, “As we know, Donald Trump won the presidency. Vice President Harris conceded the race today.” She continued, “If Republicans win a majority of the House, they have discussed passing a national abortion ban. And there would be, if they have the votes for it as a party legislatively, there would be very little we could do to stop it since they would have the House majority, the Senate majority, and a President Trump that would potentially be willing to sign that into law.”

The Congresswoman also touched on the broader implications of the election, stressing the need for a robust people’s movement and political education to counter what she predicts will be a challenging period ahead. “This is going to be a very, very, very, very challenging, difficult time. We can use the next several months to prepare as best as we can. Trump would be inaugurated around January 20th or so. And we can use this time to prepare as best as we can for what is going to be a very challenging and very difficult time for millions of people in this country.”

“A lot of people may not know how laws are passed or how governance works, and that’s okay, but it’s very important that we start to learn,” she claimed. In her concluding remarks, AOC expressed a resolve to continue the fight despite the setback. “We are about to enter a political period that will have consequences for the rest of our lives. We cannot give up.”

As AOC scrambles to rally her base, it seems the rest of the country is looking forward to a return to policies that promise growth and stability, under a leadership that speaks less about gender and more about action.
