Two drivers were lucky to survive an alleged high-speed and alcohol-related collision that ripped one of the cars in two.
The back end of the vehicle ended up down the side of a house.
The serious crash happened on Old Northern Road in Baulkham Hills in Sydney’s northwest about 7.15pm on Tuesday.
A police spokesperson said the 18-year-old driver of a 2004 Mazda miraculously walked away from the incident but was quickly arrested at the scene after he returned a positive roadside breath test with a blood alcohol reading of 0.11.
He was charged with mid-range drink-driving and his license was immediately suspended.
The spokesperson said the 45-year-old driver of the other vehicle was rushed to hospital as a precaution.
“While the cause of this particular incident is still under investigation – alcohol and speed appear to be the main factors – it’s important to remember that drunk driving and speeding are the leading causes of road accidents and fatalities,” the spokesperson said.
“Remember, your choices on the road can have life-altering consequences.
“Stay safe and drive responsibly.”
The 18-year old driver is due to appear in the Parramatta Local Court on December 11.
