Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday called President-elect Donald Trump to congratulate him on his election victory, according to a senior campaign aide.
Ms. Harris discussed the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and encouraged Mr. Trump to be a “president for all Americans,” the aide said.
Later Wednesday, Ms. Harris was to deliver remarks at Howard University in the District of Columbia to concede the election to Mr. Trump.
President Biden also spoke by phone with Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump on Wednesday afternoon and expressed his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition of power, the White House said.
Mr. Biden also invited Mr. Trump to the White House to meet with him in the near future. The president on Thursday will address the nation to discuss the election results and the transition.
