Sen. Tammy Baldwin beat back a stiff challenge from Republican businessman Eric Hovde, letting Democrats breathe a sigh of relief in an otherwise disappointing election.
With 95% of the vote cast, Ms. Baldwin led Mr. Hovde 49.38%-48.52% on Wednesday.
Donald Trump, meanwhile, narrowly carried the state in the presidential race over Vice President Kamala Harris.
Republicans had hoped to flip the seat in the perennial swing state, and Mr. Hovde ran a stronger-than-anticipated campaign against Ms. Baldwin, who has served two terms in the Senate.
She won the seat in 2012 by defeating former Republican Gov. Tommy Thompson.
