A coalition of Muslim and Arab-American leaders who worked to defeat Vice President Kamala Harris crowed Wednesday morning over her loss, saying the election result is payback for the Biden-Harris administration’s failure to secure a cease-fire between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
The group, dubbed Abandon Harris, said they repeatedly tried to meet with the Harris campaign and Democrats, but were rebuffed with “ridicule, evasion and condescension.”
“The truth is, a Trump presidency didn’t have to be inevitable. Democrats had every opportunity to win this election with ease. But instead, they chose to betray their base, to abandon the lives of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and to align themselves with some of the darkest figures in American history — like [former Vice President] Dick Cheney,” the group said in a statement.
“The Democrats made their choice, and they alone are responsible for what happened last night and the consequences it will bring the country,” the statement said.
Abandon Harris also called upon President-elect Donald Trump to immediately call for an arms embargo and a permanent cease-fire in the Middle East. Mr. Trump has condemned Hamas, whose terror attack on Israel sparked the war in Gaza, and was exceedingly pro-Israel during his first administration.
Abandon Harris said it will spend the next four years fighting “for every community sold by Democrats, who chose power over principles and blood over humanity.”
