Blues forward Dylan Holloway took a puck to the neck and later had to be taken out of Tuesday’s game against the Lightning on a stretcher late in the first period. 

The scary incident began when Holloway blocked a shot with his neck from Tampa winger Nick Paul with 2:37 left in the opening frame and appeared to be fine. 

The forward even joined in on a rush the other way and missed a scoring opportunity before playing the puck along the half-boards. 

It wasn’t until he returned to the bench that he started to indicate that he was in some pain in his neck area. 

Play was halted with 1:11 left in the first period when a commotion was noticed as the refs announced an unrelated penalty and players and the St. Louis bench could be seen waving over for the medics. 

Holloway was eventually taken off by stretcher. 

He was taken to a local hospital for testing and observation and a report from Daily Faceoff indicated that doctors believed Holloway would “be ok.” 

A source also told the outlet that Holloway’s airways were unobstructed and he was breathing without any issues. 

Holloway is scheduled to undergo what was described as a precautionary scan on Wednesday at the hospital. 

The public address announcer at Enterprise Center in St. Louis announced in the second period that Holloway was alert and stable, The Athletic reported. 

The officials in St. Louis opted to end the first period with 1:11 left and resumed the action after the first intermission. 

The Blues and Lightning had been scoreless at the time of the incident. 

Holloway is tied for the team lead in goals with four through his first 12 games this season for the Blue and he has six points in that span.
