Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris is planning a star-studded get out the vote rally for Monday that will feature musicians “speaking” but apparently not performing in support of the vice president. The Harris campaign says DJ Cassidy, Fat Joe, Freeway, Just Blaze, Lady Gaga, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Ricky Martin, The Roots, Jazmine Sullivan, Adam Blackstone and Oprah Winfrey will join Harris at the Vote for Freedom rally in Philadelphia from 5 pm to 10 pm.
The event is planned to take place at the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art located on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The museum will not be open Monday, a spokesman at the facility told CBS News Philadelphia. The rally will be the Harris campaign’s final effort to motivate its supporters to vote for the Democratic ticket, if they haven’t already done so in early or mail-in voting. Election Day is Tuesday.
Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff, will also be on hand. The Second Gentleman will also join his wife at another rally in Pittsburgh on Monday, starting at 3 pm That event will feature Katy Perry, Andra Day and D-Nice.
"These artists and public figures are trusted voices for millions of Americans, who listen to their music, follow them on social media, or otherwise are inspired by them," the campaign announced, suggesting that the celebrities should be a real draw for people wondering whether they should vote or not.
The Harris campaign is holding similar rallies in all seven battleground states and will be featured in a national livestream. Harris appeared on last weekend’s Saturday Night Live program, which the Federal Communications Commission flagged as a possible violation of the equal time rule.
