Former President Donald Trump told a rally crowd Sunday that he never should’ve left office after losing the election in 2020 to President Biden.
Mr. Trump, touting his record to a rally in Lititz, Pennsylvania, said the country would have been better off if he stayed in the Oval Office.
“We had the best border, the safest border,” he said. “I won’t pull down my world’s favorite chart because I don’t wanna waste a lot of your time, but my world’s favorite chart, done by the Border Patrol, it said we had the safest border in the history of our country on the day that I left.”
“I shouldn’t have left,” he said. “I mean, honestly, because we did so, we did so well.”
There has been much talk among Mr. Trump’s opponents about the threat, if he wins a second term, of him not surrendering power after four years.
His remark in Lititz only fueled those fears with Tuesday’s election a little more than a day away.
Mr. Trump aired similar comments soon after the 2020 election when Mr. Biden was announced the winner, though he left the White House and facilitated the transition of power to Mr. Biden.
Nevertheless, Mr. Trump maintains that he didn’t lose the 2020 election and it was stolen from him. He also faces criminal charges in Georgia and the District of Columbia over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
