The Paris Olympics offered a half-hearted apology “if people have taken any offense” to a scene in the bizarre opening ceremony that seemed to parody The Last Supper.

The Last Supper, featuring Jesus Christ and his apostles including the betrayer Judas, is an important piece of Christian history. The Paris Olympics had drag queens arrange themselves in a tableau that looked pretty darn close to the classic painting of The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci. See for yourself:

Sickeningly, there is a small child among the drag queens on display.

“The idea was to have a pagan celebration connected to the gods of Olympus. You will never find in me a desire to mock and denigrate anyone,” stated Thomas Jolly, the artistic director the oddball opening ceremony.

Another Olympics official stated: “Clearly there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group. On the contrary, I think (with) Thomas Jolly, we really did try to celebrate community tolerance. Looking at the result of the polls that we shared, we believe that this ambition was achieved. If people have taken any offense, we are, of course, really, really sorry.”
