Minnesota Governor Tim Walz — who coached football at a Minnesota high school during his teaching career — is being mocked on social media after he demonstrated a lack of basic football knowledge once again.
Walz referred to the fourth quarter in a football game — a widely known phrase that is often used outside football circles — as the “final quarter” in an X post alongside he and Vice President Harris sharing a high-five. “We’ve got the ball and we’re driving down field. And boy, do we have the team to win this. Let’s make it happen,” Walz wrote before linking to a get-out-the-vote campaign.

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) — who won five Coach of the Year awards during his highly successful college football coaching career — mocked Walz’s latest gaffe in an X post of his own.
“We call it the 4th Quarter, ‘Coach.'”

The post marks the second time instance in as many weeks where Tim Walz displayed a lack of understanding of basic football terminology.
The governor last week played a game of Madden with U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) as part of her effort to attract younger voters through video game streaming. The stream failed to gain much traction, however, as Walz rattled off basic talking points while hardly paying attention to the game. One of the game’s final scores even ended up at 0-0 as the two just ran the ball up the middle to hardly any effect.
In a now deleted X post, Walz congratulated AOC for “running” a “mean pick 6.”
“And I can call an audible on a play,” the Democratic Party nominee continued. “And we both know that if you take the time to draw up a playbook, you’re gonna use it.”
The post made no sense, as a “pick six” refers to a touchdown scored by the defense on an interception return. There is no way to “run” a pick six since it is not an offensive play.
