The Kamala Harris campaign and it de facto operatives in the mainstream media have been trying desperately to portray President Donald Trump as a dangerous radical, but it appears they might have overplayed their hand.
A number of pundits and reporters known for their leftist viewpoints are nevertheless trying to correct the record after many of their fellow liberals took Trump’s recent comments about former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) out of context.
Feels like I’m living in an alternate reality from mainstream media
Just saw headlines about Trump’s comments about Liz Cheney being shot and thought “damn that’s bad, wtf did he say now”
So I went and found the actual clip to get the context (attached). Trump effectively… pic.twitter.com/DTuTGLHeT3

As the Daily Wire reported:
The Free Press writer Kat Rosenfield said that she was not a Trump supporter, but she also doesn’t “support journalists lying to their audiences, and when he says (paraphrased) ‘these pro-war people wouldn’t be talking such a big game if they were on the front lines’ it is actually not the same thing as saying they should be shot.”
“Love to spend my days on Twitter begging members of my profession to please join me in just saying things that are true, and not saying things that are not true,” she added.
Vox’s Zack Beauchamp wrote, “Folks, Trump didn’t threaten to execute Liz Cheney. He actually was calling her a chickenhawk, something liberals said about her for ages. Look at the context — Trump is talking about giving her a weapon. Typically, people put in front of firing squads aren’t armed.”
When liberal political consultant Neera Tanden called Beauchamp out for pointing out the truth, he hit back and wrote, “It is not ‘defending’ Trump to describe what he said accurately — it is basic intellectual honesty. Telling the truth is how we in the media retain our credibility, especially when we frequently (and rightfully!) criticize Trump.”
Even “Young Turks” host Cenk Uygur weighed in:
Donald Trump did not call for the execution of Liz Cheney. That is a bald-faced lie. He was making a point about how she is a chickenhawk. But also, Trump shouldn't talk about guns being "trained on her face," especially in a time where we're worried about political violence.

The topic has sparked significant social media debate, with many commenters offering harsh criticism of the prevailing leftist narrative:
Watch the full clip of President Trump saying Liz Cheney wants to send people to die in wars that she will never experience herself.
Then look at the headlines the media is writing about it.
Gee, I wonder why trust in media is at an all time low. pic.twitter.com/B8jLfHE2N4

Democrats spent 25 years saying that Dick Cheney's kids should have to go fight in a war and all it took was Donald Trump agreeing with them to change their minds. pic.twitter.com/LLgDOgDuA2

MEDIA: Trump says he wants to place Liz Cheney in front of a firing squad.
REALITY: Trump is taking about how DC politicians send our kids off to war from comfortable offices while never putting themselves in those war zones. pic.twitter.com/Pa3L6csQov

Uygur isn’t the only “Young Turks” host who has backed away from far-left viewpoints recently:
As Fox News reported last month:
“The Young Turks” co-host Ana Kasparian explained what drove her to ditch the Democratic Party while on Jillian Michaels’ “Keeping It Real” podcast on Monday.
The progressive media host described feeling “politically homeless” over the past few years, as she started seeing an intolerance to debate and the free exchange of ideas as well as an embrace of soft-on-crime policies by the left that she believed were detrimental to society.
She ripped efforts to “demonize and even dehumanize the other side” while admitting she used to be a person who believed you could not be friends with conservatives or someone who supported former President Trump. Both women said they identified with disaffected Democrats who now feel unwelcome in their former party.
Kasparian said a turning point for her was when she was scolded by liberals after confessing she was fearful to leave her house after being sexually assaulted by a homeless man while walking her dog in Los Angeles in 2022.
Here’s what leftist comedian Bill Maher had to say about the media’s reaction to Trump’s remarks about Cheney:
Bill Maher Shocks Liberals and Calls the Media’s Dishonest ‘Firing Squad’ Headline a HOAX
“I don’t like Donald Trump. Don’t lie to me [media] and tell me he wants her [Liz Cheney] in front of a firing squad.”
“He’s criticizing her for being a war hawk. I mean, she is Dick… pic.twitter.com/KjpHxovhcz
