Barron Trump is becoming an influential advisor to his father about his campaign.
He’s rewritten the book on campaign strategy.
And Barron Trump had one secret weapon for his dad that left Democrats reeling.
Barron advises the Trump campaign on its new media strategy
Former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH), have made the usual appearances in the media for a Presidential ticket.
But they’ve been aggressive about appearing in new forms of media, like podcasts and livestreams.
Podcasting is one of the fastest-growing forms of media and allows candidates to reach an audience that doesn’t watch cable news.
Trump has made inroads with young men under the age of 30 after this group backed President Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
One of the ways that Trump and Vance have reached this group is by appearing on a number of the most popular podcasts in the country.
The former President’s appearance on comedian Joe Rogan’s The Joe Rogan Experience podcast garnered more than 33 million views on YouTube the first weekend it was released.
Rogan has an audience that dwarfs a cable news network like CNN.
18-year-old Barron Trump, the President’s youngest son, has been advising his dad’s campaign about what podcasts and live streams his dad and Vance should appear on.
Trump and Vance both appeared on This Last Weekend podcast with comedian Theo Von, which appeals to Gen Z and Millennial men.
“Dad, he’s big. He’s a big one,” Trump recalled Barron telling him about Von during his appearance on the comedian’s podcast.
Trump’s appearance on Von’s podcast garnered more than 14 million views.
Vice President Kamala Harris’ CNN town hall garnered about 3.3 million viewers.
Her biggest podcast appearance on Call Her Daddy – one of the most popular podcasts in the country with women – only had 675,000 views.
Barron knows what’s popular in the podcasting world
Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller told the Politico Playbook’s Deep Dive podcast that Barron has been helping the campaign with its new media strategy.
“Barron has been very involved in recommending a number of the podcasts that we should do,” Miller said.
Miller praised the results of Barron’s recommendations.
“I got to tell you, hats off to the young man,” Miller stated. “Every single recommendation he’s had has turned out to be absolute ratings gold that’s broke the internet.”
Miller said that the podcast appearances showed a different side of Trump and humanized him.
“It’s that relatability factor, that he can be a normal person and have those conversations,” Miller explained. “When you’re able to communicate the relatability, then voters feel even more strongly that the policies that you’re pushing for are being done because you want to help them. It’s another way of helping to complement that message.”
The Trump advisor admitted that the strategy was about getting to voters in the mediums they consume.
“When you look at the impact of podcasts or YouTube shows — non-traditional media — part of the thing is you’re meeting voters where they’re at,” Miller explained.
Donald Trump told a Philadelphia radio station earlier this year that his youngest son had taken an interest in politics.
“He’s a little on the tall side. I will tell you, he’s a tall one, but he is a good-looking guy. And he’s really been a great student. And he does like politics. It’s sort of funny,” Trump told Philadelphia talk radio show Kayal and Company in May. “He’ll tell me sometimes, ‘Dad, this is what you have to do.’”
Being able to mobilize young voters could help put Donald Trump back in the White House after the election.
