President Biden raised more than $8 million at a campaign fundraiser Tuesday in Northern Virginia featuring the Clintons and former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe.

The fundraiser was held at Mr. McAuliffe’s house and had roughly 450 attendees, the Biden campaign said. Since Friday, Mr. Biden has raised more than $40 million for his reelection bid, according to the campaign.

Mr. McAuliffe hosted the event at his home in McClean, Virginia. Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were among those who showed up to support Mr. Biden.

Virginia has been reliably blue for several decades, but recent polls show Mr. Biden and presumptive GOP nominee former President Donald Trump virtually tied in the state ahead of next year’s election.

Mr. Biden won Virginia in 2020, receiving 54% of the vote compared to Mr. Trump’s 44%.

“We have to win Virginia,” Mr. Clinton said Tuesday night. “We have to win this election.”

The Virginia fundraiser followed a star-studded cash haul in California on Saturday in which Mr. Biden appeared with former President Barack Obama. That event, which was attended by Hollywood stars George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Barbara Streisand, raised more than $30 million, a record for a Democratic candidate.

The Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee raised more than $51 million in April, less than the $90 million they raised in March and lower than the $76 million Mr. Trump and the Republican National Committee reported. Still, the Biden campaign maintains an overall cash advantage over Mr. Trump.

During the fundraiser, Mr. Biden blasted his rival as a convicted felon and warned that Mr. Trump wants to “exact revenge” if he wins a second term.

“For the first time in American history, a former president is a convicted felon and is now seeking the office of the presidency,” Mr. Biden said. “What’s more damaging is the all-out assault Donald Trump is making on our system of justice.”
