Elon Musk: ‘I Believe in the Teachings of Christ’

Eccentric billionaire Elon Musk is one of the world’s most interesting people. The founder and CEO of SpaceX, the CEO of Tesla and the owner of X, Musk’s estimated net worth is a measly $247 billion.

With the 2024 general election just five days away, Musk is barnstorming the crucial battleground state of Pennsylvania with America PAC, a super PAC he founded to encourage voters to support:

  • Secure Borders
  • Safe Cities
  • Free Speech
  • Sensible Spending
  • Fair Justice System
  • Self-Protection

America PAC is also giving away $1 million daily to lucky swing-state voters who sign the PAC’s petition to support the U.S. Constitution.

At a recent rally encouraging citizens to get out and vote, Musk opined that he “believes in the teachings of Christ,” adding,

I believe in the Christian principles, you know, “Love they neighbor.” I believe in “Turn the other cheek,” which is very important to have forgiveness. Because if you don’t have forgiveness, then you have an endless cycle of retribution.

You can watch the full clip below:

Musk’s openness to the teachings of Christianity is encouraging, though he’s never called himself a Christian.

In fact, Musk has fathered 12 children by multiple different women and has previously said that he’s “ok with going to hell, if that is indeed [his] destination, since the vast majority of all humans ever born will be there.”

Yikes! So, Musk doesn’t believe (or follow) all of the teachings of Christ. And there’s no way for Musk to know that most human beings are destined for hell.

Jesus Christ descended to earth, lived a sinless life and died on a cross to restore all things to Himself, including sinful human beings. Though we all deserve hell because of our sins, Christ’s death and resurrection merit us eternal life through Him.

Jesus said in John 3:16,

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (ESV).

Musk is just the latest non-Christian to express appreciation for Christianity. Famed atheist Richard Dawkins said earlier this year that he calls himself a “cultural Christian” because he appreciated the culture that Christianity has created.

Musk’s assertion that he “believes in the teachings of Christ” is good. But he doesn’t say that he believes in Christ’s ultimate claim: that He is God.

In Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis explained how Jesus Christ cannot be just a great moral teacher. He is either the Lord, a Lunatic or a Liar.

Lewis wrote,

I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: “I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.” That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic – on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg – or else he would be the Devel of Hell. You must make your choice.

He continued,

Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.

Consider praying for Musk, for his conversion, that the Lord might draw him to Himself.
