Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said the “game is tied” with five days to go until Election Day, leaning heavily into sports metaphors as he prodded swing-state voters in Pennsylvania on Thursday to side with the Democratic ticket.
Speaking to Bucks County voters, Mr. Walz said the election would be won or lost in the next 120 hours.
“We’re not taking anything for granted. So this is the 120-hour pep talk,” said Mr. Walz, the vice presidential nominee. “This game is tied, and it’s tied in Pennsylvania.”
“We’ve got the best quarterback in Kamala Harris,” Mr. Walz said of the Democratic presidential nominee.
Ms. Harris and former President Donald Trump are deadlocked in battleground polling before Election Day on Tuesday.
Both sides are visiting swing states in the last days of the campaign, with Ms. Harris stopping in Arizona and Nevada and Mr. Trump stopping in the same states, plus New Mexico.
Mr. Walz focused on Pennsylvania, a part of the “blue wall” that could help Democrats secure 270 or more electoral votes.
The vice presidential candidate slammed Mr. Trump over abortion access and for saying he would protect women whether they “like it or not.”
He also criticized Mr. Trump for saying sweeping tariffs on imported goods would hurt other countries while funding U.S. programs.
“This dude’s nearly 80 years old. He damn near killed himself getting into a garbage truck,” Mr. Walz said, a swipe at Mr. Trump’s playful response to President Biden calling Trump supporters “garbage.”
“They will simply have to raise prices and pass it on to you,” Mr. Walz said.
He said the idea that China will absorb the tariffs is as true as Mexico paying for the southern border wall.
“It’s not gonna happen,” Mr. Walz said.
